[US Tech Sector Layoffs Nearly 140,000: Layoff Wave Unfolds] According to a CNBC report on June 12th, Challenger, a US employment consulting firm, released a monthly report showing that by the end of June, the US tech industry had laid off nearly 140,000 employees in the first half of this year, primarily due to restructuring and automation driven by artificial intelligence. Amazon is reportedly one of the companies most heavily affected by this wave of layoffs. In January, Amazon announced layoffs of 16,000 employees, and three months prior, it had already announced layoffs of 14,000, representing approximately 9% of its total workforce. Amazon's CEO warned that while artificial intelligence will significantly improve efficiency in the coming years, the company also needs to reduce hierarchical structures to maintain flexibility and enable rapid change. Besides Amazon, Meta announced multiple rounds of layoffs this year, the most recent occurring in May, affecting 8,000 employees, or 10% of its workforce. Oracle, Cisco, and other large tech companies have also joined the layoff trend. (CCTV)
