U.S. Central Command announced that, following instructions from the Supreme Commander, its forces will reimpose a maritime blockade on Iranian ports at 4:00 PM EDT on July 14. Central Command forces will implement blockade control measures on vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas. For vessels not violating the blockade, the U.S. military will continue to guarantee their right of passage in the relevant waters. This renewed blockade follows a previous two-month blockade conducted from April 13 to June 18. During that two-month period, Central Command guided over 140 compliant vessels to adjust their routes, detained nine vessels for violations, and released over 50 commercial vessels transporting humanitarian aid. The U.S. advises all crew members to listen for navigational notices; vessels navigating the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz can contact U.S. Navy ships via channel 16 on their intercom. Further official announcements will be issued later to provide commercial vessel crews with more specific operational guidance and related information.
