[US June Inflation Falls More Than Expected, July Rate Hike Expectations Cool Sharply] ⑴ US June CPI fell 0.4% month-on-month, far below the market expectation of a 0.1% decline, compared to a 0.5% increase in the previous month. Year-on-year growth fell to 3.5%, also lower than the expected 3.8% and the previous month's 4.2%, indicating a significant easing of inflationary pressures. ⑵ Core CPI remained flat month-on-month, compared to an expected increase of 0.2%, and rose only 2.6% year-on-year, lower than the expected 2.9% and the previous month's 2.9%. Price trends excluding food and energy further confirm the cooling inflation trend. ⑶ Previously, influenced by hawkish statements, expectations for a July rate hike had risen to over 40%, but the weaker-than-expected data may have temporarily dispelled market concerns about an imminent Fed rate hike, prompting a recalibration of policy path expectations. ⑷ Fed Chairman Warsh will later deliver his semi-annual monetary policy testimony to Congress. The market will closely watch his interpretation of the latest inflation data and his hints at future policy direction in search of further clues regarding the July meeting's decision.
