According to the Korea Economic Daily, citing anonymous industry sources, Samsung Electronics plans to build a new DRAM factory in Giheung, South Korea, with a monthly wafer production capacity of approximately 100,000 wafers. The project is expected to involve an investment of tens of trillions of won. The site was originally planned for a research and development center; the market interprets this move as a response to the continuously rising demand for memory chips driven by the investment boom in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Construction is expected to begin as early as the third quarter.
