[Bank of America warns: South Korea's wafer capacity growth falls far short of target, SK Hynix's expansion significantly reduced] (1) A Bank of America report released on July 14 pointed out that due to the closure of old factories caused by technological upgrades, South Korea's average annual wafer capacity growth rate will be less than 10%, far from the official target of doubling capacity by 2030. (2) As a result, SK Hynix's new memory capacity by 2028 may only be one-sixth of the original planned scale, and the pace of expansion has slowed significantly. (3) In addition, the construction and equipment installation cycle of the large-scale wafer fabs built by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in Gwangju and Jeolla are expected to be extended to ten years, further dragging down the overall capacity expansion process.
