[China Electricity Council: National Computing Power Consumption to Reach 800 Billion kWh by 2030, Accounting for 6% of Total Electricity Consumption] (1) The China Electricity Council released a report on July 14, predicting that national electricity consumption will increase by 5%-6% year-on-year in 2026, with an annual increase of approximately 400 million kilowatts in power generation capacity. New energy sources will remain the mainstay, with an additional 100 million kilowatts of conventional power sources, roughly in line with the increase in maximum load. (2) Zhang Lin, director of the Planning and Development Department of the China Electricity Council, pointed out that computing power consumption is growing rapidly. It is estimated that during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, the national computing power consumption will increase by more than 100 billion kWh annually, reaching 800 billion kWh by 2030, accounting for about 6% of total electricity consumption. He emphasized that promoting computing-electricity collaboration is an inevitable way to gain a global competitive advantage in the computing power industry. (3) Zhang Lin suggested that, in accordance with the idea of “strengthening computing with electricity and promoting electricity with computing”, the planning should be carried out in different regions: the western region should coordinate the construction of computing power hubs and large-scale new energy bases; the eastern region should promote the coordinated planning of distributed computing power, distributed power sources, microgrids and virtual power plants to respond to computing power needs nearby.
