[India Launches Real-Time Seafarer Tracking in Strong Response to Strait of Hormuz Attack] (1) The Indian government announced that it will implement continuous monitoring of all ships carrying Indian citizens passing through the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman. The Directorate General of Shipping will establish a platform to track every Indian seafarer on board in real time (regardless of the ship's flag). Indian seafarers account for more than 12% of the world's total seafarers. (2) Previously, two merchant ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, resulting in the death of one Indian crew member and injuries to 10 others. India immediately summoned the Iranian Deputy Ambassador to lodge a protest. (3) In a statement, the Indian Minister of Shipping strongly condemned the attack, calling it irresponsible, baseless, and completely unnecessary, resulting in the casualties of Indian seafarers who are essential to the normal operation of the global supply chain. India expressed its strong indignation and opposition to this.
