India has raised the special profits tax (windfall profits tax) on diesel exports from 8.5 rupees per liter to 15.5 rupees per liter, effective July 16. As a policy tool to regulate energy export profits, such adjustments to windfall profits taxes are typically formulated in conjunction with multiple factors, including international oil price trends and domestic energy supply and demand. This will, to some extent, affect the export profits of relevant refining companies and may also have a corresponding impact on the regional distribution pattern of refined oil products.
