Recent wildfires raging across northwestern Ontario, Canada, have caused a significant decline in air quality in many parts of the country, disrupting rail transport. Affected by the smoke and haze from the wildfires, Toronto, Canada's largest city, had one of the worst air quality indices among major cities worldwide on the morning of June 15th. Data released by Environment Canada showed that Toronto's air quality health index reached a "high risk" level that day. The capital, Ottawa, was also affected by the combination of thick wildfire smoke and hot, humid weather, issuing an air quality warning. The high humidity made it difficult for smoke particles to disperse, giving the sky a yellowish hue.
