[EU fails to reach consensus on 21st round of sanctions against Russia; oil price cap to remain in effect until July 23] (1) EU representatives have yet to reach a consensus on the 21st round of sanctions against Russia, a deadlock confirmed this week by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kalas. (2) During the ongoing consultations, the parties agreed to maintain the price cap on Russian oil at $44.10 per barrel for the time being, with the validity period extended to July 23. (3) The price cap mechanism, supported by the EU and the G7, was redesigned last year to make it more flexible and automatically adjust to fluctuations in international oil prices.
