[Pew Survey: Global Favorability Towards China Surpasses U.S., Views on U.S. Plummet] (1) A Pew Research Center survey of respondents across six continents shows that public favorability toward China is generally higher than toward the United States, the first such reversal since 2023; meanwhile, views on the United States continue to deteriorate. (2) Of the 36 countries and regions surveyed, 27 have higher opinions of China, including long-time U.S. allies such as Canada, Australia, France, and Germany (these countries had higher or equal opinions of the United States last year); China’s advantage is particularly prominent in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East, with only India, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, Israel, and Poland having higher opinions of the United States than of China. (3) Of the 20 countries with comparable data from 2023, nearly half of the respondents have a positive view of China, while only 36% have a positive view of the United States; Pew Deputy Director Silver pointed out that some of the current evaluations of the United States are at or near historical lows.
