[Iraq and Syria to Jointly Rebuild Transnational Oil Pipeline] A U.S. government official disclosed on the 14th that Iraq and Syria will rebuild a long-abandoned oil pipeline to transport oil produced from Iraqi oil fields to Syrian Mediterranean ports, thus bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. Originally built in 1952, the pipeline runs approximately 800 kilometers from Kirkuk, Iraq in the east to Baniyas, Syria in the west, with a capacity of 300,000 barrels per day. The pipeline was severely damaged during the Iran-Iraq War and the Iraq War and has been abandoned for a long time. (Xinhua)
