[Dengue and Chikungunya Outbreaks Risk Rising Due to Imported Cases and Cross-Provincial Transmission] At a press conference held today by the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Li Jiandong, a researcher at the Institute of Virology of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, explained that in recent years, mosquito-borne infectious diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya have spread widely in many tropical and subtropical countries around the world. Global climate change has also led to the continuous expansion of areas suitable for the survival of Aedes mosquitoes. With increasingly frequent cross-border travel in my country, the risk of imported cases continues to rise, increasing the pressure to prevent imported cases. High temperatures and abundant rainfall in summer provide favorable conditions for the growth and reproduction of Aedes mosquitoes, resulting in mosquito density at a high level throughout the year. In addition, the significant increase in cross-border and cross-regional tourism activities during the summer vacation increases the risk of local outbreaks of dengue and chikungunya due to imported cases and cross-provincial transmission.
