[India Suspends Seafarer Dispatch to Ships on Strait of Hormuz Due to Frequent Attacks] (1) In light of the surge in attacks in and around the Strait of Hormuz, the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs and Shipping of India has instructed ship owners, ship management companies, and crew recruitment agencies to suspend the dispatch of Indian seafarers to ships navigating through the strait until further notice. (2) Recent escalation of hostilities between the US and Iran, with a series of attacks on ships, including one that resulted in the death of an Indian seafarer, prompted India to take this preventative measure. (3) It is estimated that India has more than 310,000 seafarers, making it the world's second-largest supplier of seafarers.
