[Israeli Government Approves Budget Plan to Advance Settlement Construction in West Bank] On July 16, local time, Israeli Defense Minister Katz announced that the Israeli government had approved a budget plan totaling over 1 billion shekels (approximately US$330 million) for the construction of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and new roads near the Negev Desert. According to a statement released by the Israeli Defense Minister's office, the plan is part of the government's efforts to advance settlement construction in the West Bank and will be implemented in phases from 2026 to 2029. The issue of Jewish settlements is one of the main obstacles to the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Israel occupied East Jerusalem and parts of the West Bank during the 1967 Six-Day War and has built Jewish settlements, drawing strong opposition from the Palestinians. (CCTV News)
