[Boeing Joins Forces with Lufthansa and Rolls-Royce to Test New Noise-Reducing and Fuel-Efficient Technologies, Imminent Upgrades in Engine Efficiency] ⑴ Boeing announced a collaboration with Lufthansa and Rolls-Royce to conduct flight tests of innovative technologies aimed at improving fuel efficiency and reducing noise. The tests include a shortened engine inlet demonstrator employing advanced acoustic treatment technology, as well as improved departure and arrival procedures. ⑵ Testing will commence later this month at Boeing's Glasgow, Montana site. Boeing's chief technology officer stated that these improvements are expected to bring greater value to customers such as Lufthansa and suppliers such as Rolls-Royce. ⑶ This series of tests falls under the third phase of the FAA's "Continuous Reduction of Energy, Emissions, and Noise" program. If successful, it could subsequently promote the commercial application of next-generation high thrust-to-weight ratio engines in the narrow-body aircraft market and help the industry meet increasingly stringent environmental standards.
