[Zelensky Appoints Khmara as Acting Defense Minister] On July 16, local time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on social media that he had appointed Yevgeny Khmara as acting defense minister. After completing the legal procedures, the appointment will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) for review and a vote to formally appoint him as defense minister. Zelenskyy stated that Khmara has experience in participating in long-range strike operations and also possesses management experience at the Alpha Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, making him highly suitable for the current needs of Ukraine's defense work.
