NASA commissioned SpaceX to handle the transmission of imagery data from the Orion spacecraft's Artemis 3 mission. SpaceX will provide technical support in laser communication for this mission. Compared to traditional radio frequency communication methods, laser communication offers numerous advantages, including higher data transmission rates, enhanced security, and smaller equipment size. It provides a more efficient solution for transmitting massive amounts of observational data and high-resolution imagery from deep space exploration missions, and will also lay a solid technical foundation for information transmission in subsequent Artemis missions, such as manned lunar landings and long-term lunar surface stays.
