[New Monkey Species Discovered in DRC with Distinctive Orange Lips] Researchers recently announced the discovery of a new monkey species in the jungles of the central and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Named the Congo colobus monkey, its most distinctive feature is its unique orange lips. The research team stated that given the monkey's small distribution range and population size, coupled with the anticipated impacts of increased hunting pressure and habitat change, they recommend a preliminary classification of the species as "Endangered" on the IUCN Red List and urge the DRC government to strengthen the protection of its primary habitat, Lomami National Park.
