[Malaysia's June Inflation Remains Stable at 1.9%, Core Inflation Declines Slightly] ⑴ Malaysia's annual inflation rate in June was 1.9%, essentially unchanged from the 22-month high reached in May, and slightly below market expectations of 2.0%. Price pressures remained broad, with sub-categories such as food and beverages (1.4%, unchanged from May), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.9%, previous 2.8%), housing and utilities (1.4%, previous 1.2%), and information and communication (2.1%, previous 2.0%) continuing to rise. ⑵ Inflation in the transportation sub-category fell to 2.8% from 3.8% in May, while education and insurance/financial services sub-categories recorded 2.1% and 5.7% respectively (previous 4.9%), and personal care sub-category was 3.4% (previous 4.8%). Core inflation, excluding fuel, fell to 1.9% in June, compared to 2.0% previously. On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices remained unchanged in June after rising 0.1% in May.
