[SoftBank Plans to Issue Approximately ¥60 Billion in Bonds This Month as Financing Demand Continues to Rise] ⑴ SoftBank Group reportedly plans to issue approximately ¥60 billion (approximately US$369 million) in bonds to Japanese institutional investors this month. According to lead underwriter Daiwa Securities, SoftBank plans to issue approximately ¥50 billion in 3-year bonds and approximately ¥10 billion in 5-year bonds during the week of July 27. ⑵ SoftBank has already raised ¥678 billion this year through subordinated debt issuance to retail investors and entered the US and European bond markets in April. Recent market concerns about the returns on artificial intelligence investments have intensified, dragging down the performance of semiconductor-related stocks, including SoftBank subsidiary Arm. ⑶ SoftBank's share price has fallen from its early June highs after reports that OpenAI's initial public offering may be delayed. SoftBank has also been considering using its OpenAI shares as collateral for margin loans and has reduced its planned fundraising size from the initial US$10 billion to approximately US$6 billion.
