[Austria's June Inflation Confirmed to Slow to 3.2%, Transportation Prices Remain the Biggest Driver] ⑴ Austria's annual inflation rate fell to 3.2% in June from a five-month high of 3.7% in May, in line with the preliminary reading and the lowest level since March. Easing price pressures were mainly due to slower inflation in fuel and heating oil, while food price increases also narrowed. ⑵ Despite the overall slowdown, transportation remained the biggest contributor, with prices rising 6.5%, including fuel prices which were still 16.3% higher year-on-year, and airfares surging 22.4%. Housing and utilities rose 3.0%, catering and accommodation services rose 4.5%, healthcare costs rose 4.4%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages rose only modestly by 1.3%. ⑶ On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices remained flat in June after rising 0.1% in May. The harmonized annual inflation rate (HICP) was revised upward to 3.2%, from an initial reading of 3.1%, while the HICP remained unchanged month-on-month.
