[Malaysian Palm Oil Spot Prices Mostly Weaken, Refined Varieties See Smaller Declines] ⑴ On Friday, spot prices for refined palm oil at Malaysian ports mostly declined slightly. The July contract was quoted at $1145 per ton, down $2.5 from the previous day. Near-month contracts saw declines concentrated in the range of $2.5 to $5. ⑵ Refined palm oil prices across all maturities weakened. Near-month contracts fell by $2.5, while the decline in far-month contracts widened slightly but remained limited overall, indicating thin trading in the spot market before the weekend and weak pricing intentions from both buyers and sellers. ⑶ Stearic acid and fatty acid distillates saw slightly larger declines than refined varieties, falling by $5 and $12.5 respectively, reflecting that downstream demand is more sensitive to the pricing of specialty products. (4) CIF crude palm oil spot prices in southern Malaysia remained stable at 4,540 ringgit, while palm kernel oil bucked the trend, rising 7 ringgit to 500 ringgit per pukher, becoming one of the few relatively strong commodities that day, which may be related to differences in supply and demand structures in different market segments.
