Recently, the world's first 500 MW impulse turbine inlet ball valve—the inlet ball valve for Unit 1 of the Datang Zhala Hydropower Station—successfully completed its water pressure test at the project construction site. Its sealing performance under all operating conditions met design standards, marking the successful completion of the on-site assembly and testing of the station's first giant inlet ball valve. It is understood that the Datang Zhala Hydropower Station plans to install two 500 MW impulse turbine units, with Dongfang Electric undertaking the research, development, manufacturing, and supply of one unit. This project has been successfully included in the National Energy Administration's list of the first major technical equipment in the energy sector. It is not only one of the few hydropower projects in China currently capable of developing and demonstrating 500 MW high-head, large-capacity impulse turbine units, but also the most technically challenging and comprehensive impulse hydropower project currently under construction globally.
