[High-Level Meeting on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence Held in Shanghai] Yesterday (August 18), the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Meeting on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence were held in Shanghai. Dozens of representatives from government agencies discussed addressing the challenges of global AI governance, promoting the inclusiveness and sharing of AI technologies, and preventing AI security risks. At the meeting, China called for support for the active role of the UN Global AI Governance Dialogue's International Scientific Group on Artificial Intelligence, urging it to commit to providing more international public goods, helping the Global South strengthen its capacity building, promoting the formation of a broadly consensus-based global AI governance framework, and continuing to demonstrate its responsibility as a major power.
