Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review the impact of the escalating Middle East conflict on India and corresponding countermeasures. This was the fourth special meeting of the committee on the Middle East conflict recently. According to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office, Modi called for the establishment of a unified coordination mechanism to comprehensively monitor the development of the Middle East conflict and its potential impact on India. The meeting focused on assessing the supply security of key sectors such as energy, agriculture, and shipping. Regarding energy security, the meeting confirmed that India's current crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) inventories and supplies remain sufficient, and state-owned refineries are operating at 100% capacity. To address the tight supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the Indian government is taking several emergency measures, including expanding the national gas pipeline network, strengthening LNG import and regasification infrastructure, and expanding the city gas distribution network. Simultaneously, the government will expedite the approval of pipeline and "last-mile" connection projects within the stipulated timeframe, in accordance with the Pipeline Infrastructure Order 2026, to promote the industrial sector's substitution of LPG.
