[US Senate Majority Leader John Thune: "Open" to Diesel Export Ban as Prices Soar] US Senate Majority Leader John Thune stated that he is "open" to considering a diesel export ban as the national average diesel price has surpassed $6 per gallon. Responding to a reporter's question, he said, "We'll consider all feasible options. I think that if there's sufficient domestic supply, exporting diesel now might be a way to alleviate price pressure. If this can alleviate the pressure of rising prices, I'm willing to study the option." Diesel, along with similarly chemically charged heating oil, has recently seen price increases exceeding those of gasoline, impacting key swing states in the November midterm elections. Thune stated that an export ban might be more feasible in his view than the proposed suspension of diesel taxes by Texas Senate candidate, Democrat James Talarik. Thune indicated that he is unaware of the Trump administration's stance on an export ban.
