The Washington Post reported on September 15 that, according to US officials familiar with the matter, the Trump administration plans to sell $2.8 billion worth of arms to Israel, including tens of thousands of highly lethal 2,000-pound (approximately 907 kg) bombs, specifically 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. It is understood that this arms sale plan has been informally communicated to the relevant US congressional committees responsible for approving large-scale arms sales. Neither the US nor Israeli officials have responded to requests for comment regarding this report. Israel has previously used 2,000-pound bombs multiple times in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, causing numerous civilian casualties, a situation that has drawn significant concern from human rights experts.
