[OCBC: Asian currencies may face further pressure if the Fed raises rates and then signals further tightening] (1) OCBC FX strategist Christopher Wong said in a report that Asian currencies may face further pressure if the Fed raises rates as widely expected at its September meeting and then signals further tightening. (2) The recent rise in the US dollar has affected major currencies and Asian currencies; rising US Treasury yields, weakening risk appetite, and rising oil prices have put pressure on high-beta currencies, low-yield currencies, and currencies of oil-importing countries. (3) The Indian rupee remains vulnerable to energy shocks, while the South Korean won and the New Taiwan dollar are sensitive to capital flows and risk appetite.
