[US House Passes War Powers Resolution to Limit Trump’s Actions Against Iran; Republican Support Rises to 7] (1) The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a Democratic-backed war powers resolution aimed at limiting President Trump’s military actions in Iran. The vote was 220 to 204. The resolution was introduced by Massachusetts Democratic Representative Seth Morton. (2) Seven Republicans voted in favor: Kentucky Representative Thomas Massey, Pennsylvania Representative Brian Fitzpatrick, Ohio Representative Warren Davidson, Michigan Representative Tom Barrett, Iowa Representative Maryanne Miller-Meeks, Iowa Representative Zach Nunn, and South Carolina Representative Nancy Mays. This is the third time the House has passed a similar war powers resolution, with the number of Republicans supporting it increasing from four to seven. (3) Gregory Meeks, the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, stated that the current Congress did not authorize a war against Iran, yet the administration has put the U.S. military at risk, without a declaration of war, congressional authorization, or a plan for how to win or end the war.
