On September 15th, ahead of Japan's Respect for the Aged Day (which falls on the 21st this year), the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare released statistics on centenarians and other related individuals. The number of centenarians in Japan has reached 107,677, marking the 56th consecutive year of increase and the first time the number has exceeded 100,000. Overall, among those over 100 years old, 94,298 are women (87.6%), and 13,379 are men.
