[Indian regulators ease position restrictions for arbitrage funds to inject liquidity into closing auctions] (1) Indian market regulators have granted arbitrage mutual funds greater position management flexibility to inject liquidity into the sluggish closing auctions for stocks. (2) Sources familiar with the matter revealed that regulators allow these funds to hold temporary unhedged positions up to 1% of their product size. (3) This easing of rules allows funds to retain temporary position mismatches without having to maintain full hedging at all times, thereby attracting funds to the sluggish closing auctions that began on August 3.
