[Houthi Denies Attack on Mecca] The Houthi rebels in Yemen issued a statement today (September 16) denying Saudi accusations that they threatened the holy city of Mecca, stating that their operations targeted Saudi oil facilities and military bases, far removed from religious sites within Saudi Arabia. The statement also asserted that the Houthis "pose no threat to the holy city." The Saudi-led coalition stated early this morning (September 16) that Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone launched by Yemen's forces south of the western city of Mecca on September 15, before the drone "entered" the no-fly zone around the Islamic holy city.
