[Sweden's Unemployment Rate Rises to 8.5% in August] ⑴ In August 2026, Sweden's unemployment rate rose to 8.5% from 8.4% in the same period of 2025. ⑵ The total number of unemployed increased by 19,300 to 505,200 compared to August 2025, including 251,000 unemployed women and 255,000 unemployed men, corresponding to unemployment rates of 8.9% and 8.2% respectively. ⑶ Among the 15-24 age group, the number of unemployed was 144,000, with a youth unemployment rate of 18.4%. ⑷ The number of long-term unemployed (unemployed for at least 27 weeks) decreased by 36,000 to 168,000, including 73,000 women and 95,000 men. ⑸ The number of employed people aged 15-74 increased by 102,600 to 5.4 million compared to the same period last year, including 2.58 million women (an increase of 61,000) and 2.85 million men. ⑹ The average total working hours per week was 128.7 million hours. (7) After seasonal adjustment, the unemployment rate was 8.7%, and the youth unemployment rate was 23.8%.
