European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: This is why I invited Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney; we share a similar perspective on the world. We will move from a trade agreement with Canada to a future alliance. The EU and Canada will create a space of shared prosperity and economic security for manufacturing, technology, energy, artificial intelligence, defense, and the Arctic. We hope to open the door for Canada to become the EU's first associate member state.
