[Strait of Hormuz Traffic Remains in Single Digits] ⑴ Preliminary shipping data shows that only 4 vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, a further decline from 7 the previous day, and far below the daily average of 18 vessels over the past 10 days. ⑵ Two vessels entered and two exited the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. No very large crude carriers (VLCCs) or LNG carriers were observed in the transit fleet; some vessels sailed with their transponders off, and these vessels were not included in the statistics. ⑶ A large LNG carrier carrying approximately 460,000 barrels of liquefied petroleum gas exited via the Iranian side of the channel; a Panamax tanker carrying approximately 500,000 barrels of naphtha left the strait via a covert route without signal activation. Both vessels entering the Strait of Hormuz were fully loaded, one a short-haul product tanker and the other a dry bulk carrier, both taking the Iranian route. ⑷ The Bab el-Mandeb Strait saw 22 vessels transiting on Tuesday, compared to 24 the previous day, indicating little change in overall traffic volume. (5) Before the war, the Strait of Hormuz handled about one-fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas transport. Recently, with the increase in regional attacks, the volume of shipping on the strait has shrunk significantly.
