[Korean won weakens for fourth consecutive day, pressured by Fed hawkish stance and cooling risk appetite] (1) The Korean won weakened for the fourth consecutive trading day due to the Fed's hawkish stance and cooling market risk appetite. (2) The US dollar rose 0.4% against the Korean won to 1381.65, after a cumulative increase of more than 2% in the previous three trading days. (3) The one-month implied volatility of the US dollar against the Korean won was 10.0975%, higher than Wednesday's 10.075%. (4) Shinhan Investment economist Ha Keon-hyeong said that in the short term, the Fed's interest rate hike may widen the interest rate differential with South Korea, suppressing the Korean won's trend; however, the US fundamentals are not better than South Korea's, so the Korean won is not expected to continue to depreciate.
