[Malta's Inflation Rate Slightly Decreases to 2.0% in August] ⑴ In August 2026, Malta's annual inflation rate slightly decreased to 2.0% from 2.1% in July. ⑵ The price increase for food and non-alcoholic beverages slowed to 1.6% from 1.7% in July, furniture and household appliances slowed to 1.1% from 2.9%, restaurants and hotels slowed to 2.9% from 3.3%, and insurance and financial services slowed to 0.7% from 1.0%. ⑶ The price increases for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.8%), medical care (2.8%), leisure and culture (3.2%), education (3.2%), and miscellaneous goods and services (3.7%) remained unchanged. ⑷ Information and communication costs further declined, from -1.6% to -3.4%. ⑸ Meanwhile, clothing and footwear prices rebounded, rising from -3.6% to 1.6%; transportation rose from 1.9% to 2.3%, and housing and utilities rose from 3.0% to 3.1%. (6) On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices rose 0.6% in August, compared with a 0.5% increase in July.
