[Eurozone August Inflation Revised Downward, Core Price Pressures Ease] ⑴ Final data released by Eurostat on Thursday showed that eurozone inflation accelerated less rapidly in August than previously estimated. ⑵ The harmonized inflation rate rose to 3.2% from 2.9% in July, revised down from the initial estimate of 3.3%. ⑶ Core inflation, excluding energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco, slowed to 2.4% from 2.5% in July, consistent with the initial estimate. ⑷ On a month-on-month basis, the harmonized consumer price index rose by about 0.4%, in line with expectations. ⑸ Component data showed that energy price increases accelerated, rising from about 10% in July to about 14%; non-energy industrial goods price increases rose from about 1% to about 1%. ⑹ Food, alcohol, and tobacco price increases slowed to about 1% from about 1%, while services inflation fell to about 3% from about 3%.
