It is reported that 59 innovative drugs have been approved for marketing this year, including 13 drugs with new mechanisms and new targets, demonstrating a steady improvement in original innovation capabilities. From January to August this year, there were 113 business development (BD) transactions in the national biomedical industry, totaling US$119.997 billion. Shanghai accounted for 37 of these transactions, representing 33% of the national total, ranking first in the country. The scale of Shanghai's biomedical industry continues to grow, reaching 500.566 billion yuan in the first half of 2025, and is expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan in 2026, becoming Shanghai's fifth trillion-yuan-level industrial cluster.
