[US Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index Rises to 37.8 in September, Exceeding Expectations] ⑴ The US Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index for September was 37.8, exceeding the expected 30.5 and the previous reading of 47.4. ⑵ New orders were 29.2, up from 30.1 in the previous month; shipments were 27.7, unchanged from the previous month; and backlog was 20.4, up from 14.4 in the previous month. ⑶ Delivery time was 26.5, down from 3.7 in the previous month; and inventory was -12.5, down from -3.7 in the previous month. ⑷ Price paid was 48.6, up from 40.9 in the previous month; and receiving price was 31.3, up from 17.7 in the previous month. ⑸ Number of employees was 11.8, up from 27.9 in the previous month; and average weekly employee hours were 18.0, up from 26.5 in the previous month. (6) Regarding indicators for the next six months: the previous value for capital expenditure index was 48.2; the previous value for new orders was 66.0; the previous value for shipments was 63.5; the previous value for unfulfilled orders was 8.5; the previous value for delivery time was 0.0; the previous value for inventory was 17.4; the previous value for payment price was 62.9; the previous value for receiving price was 59.8; the previous value for number of employees was 35.4; and the previous value for average weekly employee hours was 21.4.
