[Bank of England Adjusts Bond Sales Strategy to Ease Bond Market Pressure] The Bank of England has completely overhauled its plan to sell excess government bonds, suspending all bond sales in its £488 billion portfolio until April and completely halting the sale of long-term bonds. These measures are expected to reduce the supply of UK government bonds and provide support to the bond market, with the UK government's borrowing costs also expected to decrease as a result of the announcement. Following the announcement, the yield on 30-year government bonds fell by more than 10 basis points. The plan to sell bank bonds to the Debt Management Office instead of directly to the market is expected to lead to a long-term decrease in government borrowing costs.
