Russian stocks fell below the 2250 mark on Thursday, dragged down by falling oil prices and the risk of sanctions. The Moscow Exchange index closed at 2248.87 points, down 1.6%, after briefly dipping to 2236.4 points, breaking below the local support level of 2250 points. The RTS index also fell 2% to 838.3 points. The market pressure was mainly due to multiple factors, including lower international oil prices, a lack of new progress in negotiations on the Ukraine crisis, and the risk of potential US sanctions. In terms of individual stocks, Lenta and Mosenergo, which are scheduled to be removed from the index on September 18, led the decline, falling 6.1% and 4.2% respectively; MTS, Lukoil, and the Moscow Exchange also fell 4.8%, 3.4%, and 3% respectively.
