European stocks posted their biggest gain since early July as the Federal Reserve's rate hike reassured investors of its commitment to combating inflation, while the Bank of England kept rates unchanged as expected. The Stoxx Europe 600 index closed up 0.9%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note fell 8 basis points to 4.94%. Following the Bank of England's rate decision, the FTSE 250 rose 1%, and UK government bonds also gained. Basic resources and automotive sectors led the gains, while chemicals and personal care products sectors saw the biggest declines. Raiffeisen Bank International AG fell 5.4% after Grizzly Research LLC announced it was shorting the stock, citing a survey that showed the bank had exposure to trade in Russian goods subject to import/export restrictions. German industrial services provider Bilfinger SE fell 21% after the company lowered its full-year sales forecast.
