CleanSpark is planning to raise approximately $2.23 billion through its first-ever junk bond issuance, which will be used to build artificial intelligence infrastructure projects related to Meta Platforms. Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the five-year bonds are currently being priced at around 8.5%, about 2 percentage points higher than the average yield of BB-rated corporate bonds tracked by Bloomberg. This difference is attributed to the higher risk premium demanded by investors for data center-related financing projects. When the transaction officially launched on Thursday, investor subscriptions already matched the issuance size. According to compiled statistics, this is the first junk bond issuance in the market linked to Meta's data centers.
