[FAO: Global Hunger Population May Reach 520 Million by 2030 Due to Middle East Conflict] (1) Oleg Kobyakov, head of the FAO’s Russian liaison office, said in an interview with Sputnik that the number of people facing hunger globally by 2030 may reach 520 million due to the Middle East conflict. (2) He said, “Considering the impact of the Middle East conflict, there will still be 510 million to 520 million people facing hunger by 2030.” He pointed out that before the crisis, this number was projected to be 503 million. (3) He emphasized that the above projections do not include other potential adverse factors, such as extreme weather events, which could further worsen the situation. (4) Kobyakov concluded that the Middle East crisis could affect more countries by pushing up energy and fertilizer prices.
