[Citi Strategist: Rally in Long-Term UK Bonds Likely a One-Off Event] ⑴ Citigroup interest rate strategist Jamie Seall stated that the rally in UK government bonds, primarily driven by long-term bonds, following the Bank of England's comprehensive adjustment to its quantitative easing program is likely a one-off event. ⑵ Seall wrote in a research report that although this is a significant adjustment to the quantitative easing policy, the pace of balance sheet reduction and the cancellation of long-term bond sales are largely in line with market expectations. ⑶ After the Bank of England announced on Thursday the suspension of long-term bond sales, the UK government bond yield curve flattened in a bull market, with the 30-year bond yield falling 12 basis points that day.
