[Nordic electricity forward prices rebounded intraday, but are still likely to close lower for the week] ⑴ Nordic electricity forward contracts rebounded on Friday, ending a three-day decline, supported by a stronger European energy market; however, improved hydropower reserves in the region put overall price pressure on prices this week. ⑵ Nordic baseload electricity contracts for the next quarter rose €2.71, or 2.5%, to €112.10/MWh; Nordic electricity contracts for the next year rose €1.64, or 2.3%, to €66.80/MWh. ⑶ Spot natural gas prices in the Netherlands and the UK rebounded after three consecutive days of decline, supported by LNG shipping disruptions, maintenance at Norwegian facilities, and low European gas storage inventories. ⑷ The European benchmark German-French electricity contract for next year rose €3.45, or 2.7%, to €130.90/MWh; the European carbon allowance benchmark contract rose €0.72, or 0.83%, to €86.30/ton. (5) The shortage of available hydropower reserves in Northern Europe is narrowing over the next 15 days. Weather forecasts indicate sunny and dry conditions in Southern Europe next week, and the expected dry weather will provide some support for electricity prices.
