According to statistics released by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), in the week ending September 15, speculative funds reduced their net short positions in the four core natural gas markets, including the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), by 153 contracts, bringing the current net short position to 54,263 contracts. Such changes in positions typically reflect market participants' comprehensive assessments of multiple factors, including expectations for natural gas supply and demand, geopolitical situations, and weather forecasts, and to some extent, can reflect short-term speculative sentiment in the market.
