European Governing Council member Stournaras stated that the European Central Bank cannot ignore persistent supply-side shocks. Such shocks often have a ripple effect on price trends, supply chain stability, and the overall pace of economic recovery in the Eurozone. If not properly addressed in the long term, they could increase the difficulty of inflation control and pose greater challenges to the formulation and adjustment of subsequent monetary policy. Therefore, they indeed need to be included in the core scope of policy considerations.
